i revived this song in Dec 2022 when a friend was having a wintertime show-n-tell gathering… we were all asked to bring something (song, story, photo, poem, article – anything) that related to the season of holiday bliss and blues… so i dusted off this 10+ year old song, whittled the lyrics, tightened the melody and grabbed the ukulele

Lyrics

time to pull your winter clothes up from the basement
time to get a refill on your medication
go outside even less than normally
try to hide even more because you see it’s getting

cold outside
getting cold inside
getting old this live
goes in circles

oh in circles don’t we try to fit in
drawn around our lives and our friends
the people we let in
and oh the people we push out

such a steep steep learning curve
oh how we work so hard to earn
our own spots inside some circles
then take turns drawing our own

circles inside
circles outside
til we’re old, we die
they lay us flat, like a line

it’s getting cold outside
getting cold inside
getting old this life going
oh ho ho ho
